How To Install Windows 11 From A USB Step By Step Guide

Despite being initially announced in June, Windows 11 is now accessible for download. The OS is now pre-installed on a few new devices, and there will be many more in the near future.

If a user has a compatible Windows 10 device, they may install Windows 11 straight away. The Installation Assistant makes getting started a simple, and the Windows 11 download page is now accessible.

The official ISO file is also accessible online. The easiest and fastest method to install it on as many compatible devices as consumers choose is to transfer it to a USB stick or other flash drive. Despite Microsoft's official support, the process is still somewhat challenging.

Make Certain You Have Enough Room

Verify again before you begin that you won't ever run out of space. You'll need adequate space on the computer where the Windows 11 ISO file is being downloaded, any flash drives you're using, as well as the target devices, since the file is 5.1GB in size.

If you're having trouble with this, you may find our guidance on freeing up space in Windows 10 useful. It's wise to do a factory reset after backing up any data you won't need right away. When you return to your computer, you may then make your decision.

Get the ISO file now.

Previously, the download process required logging into a Microsoft account and joining the Windows Insider Program. It's a lot simpler now:

Step 1: Visit the official Windows 11 download page.
Step 2: Under "Create Windows 11 installation media," click "Download Now."
Step 3: At this point, the Media Creation Tool will start to download. When it's done, double-click to begin running.
Step 4: Adhere to the on-screen directions to download the ISO file.

If you need to retain any of your existing files or data, be sure to choose this option. Windows 11 will function as if it had just been unboxed after installation.

But installing it via a USB disk is a bit more challenging.

Move to a USB drive

The ISO file will appear like any other download in File Explorer (or Finder on a Mac). To transfer the file, just connect your USB stick or another flash drive to your computer and proceed normally. It will take a moment or two to finish this.

Open Windows 11 using the USB drive.

You must make the USB stick bootable if you want to use it to use Windows 11 after it is plugged in. Microsoft advises using Rufus for this.

Step 1: On the device running Windows 11, download and install the most current version of Rufus (3.15 as of this writing).
Connect the USB disk on which the ISO file will be installed in step 2. Make sure that all other files have been erased and that there is at least 8GB of empty space.
Step 3: Select the necessary USB from the "Device" menu in the main Rufus window.
Step 4: Select NTFS under "File system" and MBR under "Partition scheme" to complete the process.
Step 5: Choose the ISO file by clicking "SELECT" to the right of "Boot selection."
Step 6: Click "Start" to start the process; the length of time depends on the speed of your USB stick.

You'll have a USB stick after you're done that you may use to install Windows 11 on any device that is compatible.

Step 1 is to insert the USB stick into the desired device.
Step 2 is to restart the gadget.
Step 1: To enter Safe Mode, hold down the F8 key while waiting for the Windows logo to display.
Step 4: From the drop-down box, choose "Use a device" and then the USB stick.

The Windows 11 ISO file you downloaded ought to start your computer up right now. If not, you may need to turn Secure Boot off in the BIOS.
